Whitewater Rafting at Ohiopyle

Hi everyone! Recently, I went on a whitewater rafting trip with my girlfriend to Ohiopyle State Park. It wasn't my first time, but I definitely would not call myself experienced. Although it was a little intimidating at first, it ended up being a great time. Ohiopyle has 3 sections of the river, all with different levels of rapids. The upper Yough is in Maryland, and it is the Class 5 section. That section is only for experienced and brave adventurers. The middle Yough is a calm section that is often used for fishing. The lower Yough, which is what we did, has class 2-4 rapids. The rapids in this section are very approachable for beginners and families, but don't let it fool you. It has more than enough power to flip a raft (we did, remember your safety gear).

Hiking

Hi again everyone. I would like to talk about hiking because it is such a fun activity that anyone can do with no cost of entry. There is no gear that you have to purchase, just some things that might help. It is very scalable for different skill levels. For example, you can do an easy 2 mile hike in a community or state park, or you can do a multi-day hike that covers a distance of dozens or hundreds of miles! I have experience with both of these types of hiking, and the best advice I can give is to be prepared, especially for a multi-day hike as you will need several items with you along the way. I will go more in depth into backpacking on another day, as it is an activity that has can go very wrong if you do not know how to prepare for it.

Mountain Biking

Hello everyone! Mountain biking is one of my favorite outdoor activities, so it is fitting that it is the first one that I talk about. I am going to talk specifically about places to go mountain biking in the area. I have been mountain biking for about 3 years now, and I love it. It is a great way to experience the outdoors in a more fast-paced way. We have limited options for dedicated mountain bike trails here in western Pennsylvania, but you can still have fun on all of the hiking and multi use trails that we have. My favorite place to ride that is local within about an hour is Alameda park in Butler. They have a great combination of flow and jump trails, technical trails, and wooden features. They have green trails, all the way up to black diamond trails, which makes it suitable for people of all skill levels. There are better areas to bike outside of an hour drive, like Ohiopyle, but Alameda is the best local place to take your bike to in my opinion.

Welcome!

Hi everyone, Thank you for checking out this blog! This page will be all about the outdoors; activities you can participate in, my experiences with these activities, and news about these activities. I have been an avid outdoorsman my entire life. It started with hunting and fishing with my dad when I was young, and now it has evolved into almost every outdoor activity you can think of. Some of them include mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing, water skiing, disc golf, etc. I am by no means an expert in any of these, but I feel that I am qualified to talk about them based on my experience with them. I will update often, so check back to see some new posts!
